Anne Sapp Morrison, age 85, of Burlington, NC passed away peacefully on February 28, 2016. A native of Concord, NC, she was born on June 17, 1930, to the late Charles and Alene Stonestreet Sapp. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morrison was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Daniel Baker Morrison, in 1995. Mrs. Morrison was a graduate of Concord High School and attended Mary Washington College in Virginia. Family came first for Mrs. Morrison, but there were many other firsts for her as well. She was very active in politics and she was the first woman elected Chairman of the Sixth Congressional District of the North Carolina Republican Party, was a Charter Member of the South Carolina Federation of Republican Women, and Co-Chairman of the South Carolina Young Republicans. She was instrumental, both on the local and state level, in numerous Republican campaigns in South Carolina and North Carolina. She was the first woman ever named to the Board of Directors of the Burlington Alamance Chamber of Commerce, and the first woman to ever serve as vice president. She was involved in many civic initiatives, including the Alamance Historical Museum, Burlington Historical Preservation Committee, serving as President for a number of years, and Elon University. She was one of the first female real estate agents in Burlington and started her own real estate agency, Village Real Estate, in 1973, served as President of Board of Realtors, was named Realtor of the Year, and her real estate career spanned some four decades. She was a member of the Mebane Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Morrison is survived by her brother Charles Stonestreet Sapp, and his wife Nikki, of Temple, Texas and three children, Pamela Anne Morrison of New Hope, PA; Daniel Baker Morrison, Jr, and his wife Peggy, of Charlotte, NC; and Charles Sapp Morrison of Columbia, SC; as well as four grandchildren, Daniel Baker Morrison, III of Charleston, SC; Margaret Anne Morrison of Charlotte, NC; Elizabeth Dargan Morrison of Columbia, SC; and Edward Baker Morrison of Columbia, SC. The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Cindy Kearns for her wonderful support and friendship to Mrs. Morrison over the years. In addition, the family would like to thank the staffs at the Village of Brookwood and Hospice for their care for Mrs. Morrison while she was a resident there. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Cooper Stonestreet officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord, NC In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Morrison Childrens Camp Fund at the Mebane Street Church of Christ, P.O. Box 380, Burlington, NC, 27216.
