Mrs. Anna Marie Cassano DeYoung, 92, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008 at White Oak Manor. A native of Pedricktown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Angelina Cassano and was married to Benjamin F. DeYoung. After graduating from Penns Grove High School, she attended Glassboro Normal School and later received her teaching certificate from Glassboro State College. Mrs. DeYoung retired from the Pedricktown School System after teaching third grade for 33 years. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mrs. DeYoung is survived by a daughter, Annette Lachmann and her husband, Wayne, of Burlington; two grandchildren, Angela Thornton and her husband, Shawn, of Burlington and Justin Ware of Raleigh; a great grandson, Connor Thornton; three sisters, Mildred White and Eleanor Cassano , both of New Jersey, and Joann Cates of Delaware; and two brothers, Vito Cassano of New Jersey and Pasquale Cassano of California. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Frances Munyon and Rose Harrop; a brother, Roger Cassano; and a beloved friend, Mary Brandt. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Father Robert Benko O.F.M. Conv., V.F. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The viewing will be held at the church at 10:00 AM, one hour prior to the mass. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of the granddaughter, Angela Thornton, 2240 Delaney Dr., Burlington. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in Anna's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215. Throughout her life the two things that remained important to Anna was her family, whom she loved, and all the children that she came into contact with during her years of teaching.
