Burlington Ann-Marie Lashley, 40, of 801 W. Davis St. died on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at Duke University Medical Center. She was born in Coventry, England. Ann was entering her 12th season as the Associate head coach of the Elon Womens Basketball team where she received the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Award following the 2002-03 season. During her playing days, Ann was a four year starter for the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs. She worked with USA Basketball in several capacities, competed for Great Britain on the World University Games Team in 1985 and 1987, and the Olympic Team in 1988. Ann was a daughter, coach, athlete, friend, aunt, sister, seeker of meaning and purpose. She navigated life with class, intelligence, grace and beauty. Ann went about each day with a fierce commitment to purpose and meaning. She exemplified courage, passion and strength. She demonstrated a quiet zeal for loving, laughing and learning, that left an indelible impression on our hearts and in our minds. Her strong presence and vigor in creating a life well-lived remains forever a source of comfort for all who knew her and loved her. In the race to be better or best, do not miss the joy of being. She is survived by her parents, Keith and Ettie Lashley; a brother, Brian Lashley, and nephews, Bradley and Courtney Lashley, all of Coventry, England. A Memorial Service in Celebration of the Life of Ann will be held at 6:00 PM Sunday, November 13, 2005 at the Whitley Auditorium at Elon University with Chaplain Richard McBride officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Elon Athletics Foundation or the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, Office of Development and Communications, DUMC-3828, Durham, NC 27710 for cancer research in memory of Ann.
