Ann Cowen Scott

Miriam Ann Cowen Scott, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 10, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born in Coffee County, Alabama to the late James Enoch Cowen and Jimmie Lou Smith Cowen. She was the wife of the late Hal Larry Scott.

 Ann was a retired Educator and Member of Westside Fellowship Church. She was an accomplished wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, business owner and advocate for early childhood education. Ann was a mentor to many teachers and preschool educators and instrumental to elevating the profession of child care. As a strong advocate for children, she was committed to quality child care and actively involved in the development of Alamance Childcare Resource and Referral. In addition, she especially enjoyed keeping up with her grandchildren and their accomplishments.

 She is survived by her son, Gregory Cowen “Greg” Scott and his wife, Gayle of Burlington; grandchildren, Sadie and Peggy Scott; siblings, Janice Lindsay and husband, Bill, Ramona Hammett, Roland Cowen and wife, Shelby, Mary Flagg, Ed Cowen and wife, Myrna, Charles Cowen and wife, Amy and Jeff Cowen and wife, Sharon and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Hal Larry “Scotty” Scott II; sisters, Corinne McCartha and Helen Murphy

 The family would like to thank the staff of Authoracare Hospice, especially Amy Parsons, RN and Maisha Atwater, CNA. Also, a special caregiver Mrs. Phyllis Davis, RN.

 A Service to Celebrate her life will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Beth Crissman. The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:45PM prior to the service and at other times will be at the home of Greg and Gayle.

 Memorials may be made to Ann Scott Memorial Early Childhood Scholarship at Alamance Community College, c/o The ACC Foundation, Post Office Box 8000, Graham, NC 27253. Please indicate Ann Scott Scholarship in the memo line.
