BURLINGTON- Amos R. Rhames, 76, of 1566 Deep Creek Church Rd., died Monday, January 16, 2006 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three months of failing health. A native of Auburn, FL, he was the son of the late Angus B. Rhames and the late Thelma Pitts Rhames and was married to Peggy Hart Rhames, who survives, for over 56 years. He was retired from Colonial Pipeline with over 30 years service and was a member of Hopedale Christian Church. He was a HAM Radio operator for over 40 years and was a member of the Alamance Radio Club, the ARES, and the ARRL. He also gave much of his time volunteering for Hospice of Alamance-Caswell and the American Red Cross. Mr. Rhames is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Gail R. Sykes and her husband, Norman Rickey Sykes of Efland; a grandson, Ronald Jordan and his wife, Emily; a step grandson, Darryl Sykes; three great grandchildren, Josh Jordan, Korie Jordan, and Madison Jordan; four sisters, Nadine Branch, Katy Carr, Marie Ritter, all of Florida, and Faye Raffield of Alabama; and six brothers, Donald Rhames and Buck Rhames, both of Florida, Lynwood Rhames of Mississippi, Carl Rhames of New Mexico, Troy Rhames of Julian, and Curtis Rhames of Georgia. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Lowe Funeral Chapel by Rev. Bob Cauthren, Rev. Deryl Holliday, and Rev. Vito Bisogno. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:00-1:45 PM Thursday and other times at the home.
