Alvin Norman Herbin, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 14, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Guilford County and the son of the late Allie Norman and Bertha Gilliam Herbin. He was the husband of 64 years to Virginia B. Herbin who survives.
Alvin retired from farming. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He served his country in the U.S Army. A Scripture to remember him by is James 5:7-8 “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”
Alvin is survived by his wife, Virginia Boone Herbin; his son, Michael “Mike” Alvin Herbin and wife, Angela, of Gibsonville; daughter, Janet Herbin Fogleman and husband, Bryan of Elon; grandchildren: Sarah Fogleman Stack and husband, David, Rebecca Fogleman Winn and husband, Jack, Amanda Herbin Hedden and husband, Alex, and James Michael Herbin and wife, Kaitlyn; great grandchild, Benjamin Miles Winn; two sisters: Becky Dixon and husband, Jimmy, and Patty Herbin; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Apple.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, May 17, 2021 at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. David Harvin. Public viewing for friends will be on Sunday, May 16 from 12:00 PM till 4:30 PM at the Lowe Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
