Alton Dunevant, Sr.

McLeansville - Alton James Dunevant, Sr., 89, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Ashton Place. A native of Alamance County, he was born May 15, 1928 to the late Oscar Price Dunevant and Bessie Wheeley Dunevant Vincent and was the husband of 62 years to the late Frances Elaine Maye Dunevant who died in April.
Alton was a member of McLeansville Baptist Church where he served as an usher and he and his wife helped with the bulletins each Sunday morning. He retired from AT&T at the Guilford Center and later he retired with Wackenhut Security. Alton attended Elon College and was an avid golfer during his lifetime. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War where he attained the rank of sergeant and was a bronze star recipient for valor in combat. He was a devoted, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include a son, Alton James "Sam" Dunevant, Jr. and wife, Nancy; grandson, Alton Duane "Al" Dunevant and great grandchildren, Avrey and Riley Dunevant. He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Mebane Vincent; wife, Frances Elaine Maye Dunevant; daughter, Kim Elaine Dunevant and a sister, Nadine Ladd.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00am on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Mike Barnette with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
