Mr. Alton Leon Baker, age 85, of Bethel Church Rd., died Monday, August 6, 2012 at his home after a sudden illness. Born in Alamance County, he was the son of the late Willie Frank Baker, Sr. and the late Lizzie Davis Baker and was married for over 52 years to Mrs. Kay Reese Baker, who survives. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII. He retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company with over 30 years of service and was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Al was a 32nd Degree Mason and Scottish Rite and was a Past Master of Tabasco Lodge #271 in Gibsonville and was a Shriner of the Amran Temple in Greensboro. He loved farming and raised tobacco and cattle for many years. Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Quentin Baker and his wife, Judy, of Gibsonville and Johnny Baker of Snow Camp; three grandchildren, Seth, Julie and Jill; two great grandchildren; and two brothers, Bobby Baker and Willie Baker, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Clara Bradshaw; and a brother, Melvin Baker. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Bethel Presbyterian Church by Rev. Sue Flippin. Masonic graveside rites will follow the service in the church cemetery.
