Alma Christine Sutton Kernodle, 100 years old, passed away at Hinkle Hospice House on Sunday, June 23, 2024. She was born on December 16, 1923 to the late John William Sutton and Lydia Elizabeth Loy Sutton and was the wife of the late Leonard H. Kernodle.
Alma was a native of Alamance County, a life-long resident of Elon, North Carolina and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gibsonville. She was an avid reader and enjoyed walking, gardening and trips to the beach. She was also known for her famous chicken salad, a favorite among friends and family.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Kernodle (Jerry Word) of Clemmons, and Marie Kernodle of Lexington, granddaughter, Meghan Forrest (Tyler) and great-grandson, Luke, all of Lexington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard H. Kernodle, her parents, John William Sutton and Lydia Elizabeth Loy Sutton, brothers, Edgar Sutton, Melvin Sutton, Boyd Sutton, and sisters Ruby Freshwater, and Pauline Tatum.
The funeral service will be Friday, June 28th at Lowe’s Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with visitation preceding the service at 12:45 pm. At other times, the family will receive visitors at 702 Hilltop Drive in Lexington.
