Allen Vestal

Burlington, NC Allen Monroe Vestal, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Yadkin County and the husband of 62 years to Betty Brothers Vestal who survives. Allen retired as the owner and operator of A M Vestal Masonry after 25 years. He was a charter member of Beacon Baptist Church where he served as usher and trustee. He was also a member of the Advanced Bible Sunday School Class. Allen was a master craftsman building clocks, furniture and knives and donating his talents to many churches and homes in the community. He was an avid gardener taking great pride in his sweet potato crops. Allen was a loving and devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Betty Brothers Vestal of the home; sons, Lee Vestal and his wife, Sue of Graham, Ben Vestal and his wife, Robin of Lynchburg, Virginia and Mark Vestal and his wife, Donna of Burlington; daughter, Lori Vestal Herron of Graham; eight grandchildren, one step grandchild and three great grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Hudson of Las Vegas, Nevada and Eunice Dowd of Burlington and a brother, Calvin Vestal and his wife, Barbara of Eua Claire, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Natalie Vestal; parents, Sexton M. and Izella Williamson Vestal; son-in-law, Michael Irving Herron; sisters, Salena Vestal, Greta Hudson and Edith Dunbar; brother, Sanford Vestal and father and mother-in-law, Ben and Margaret Brothers. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Beacon Baptist Church by Pastor Greg Barkman and Pastor Gerald Counts and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
