Allen Basil Canfield, 84, of Burlington, NC went to his heavenly rest on June 19, 2022.
Allen was born in Buffalo, New York. He was married to Clara (Perry), his wife of 16 years, and made his home in North Carolina since retiring in 1999. He was the son of the late Herbert and Mildred (Kilner) Canfield. Allen graduated from McKinley Vocational High School in construction and metal work, entering the trade industry following High School as a sheet metal worker through the National Sheet Metal Workers Union (Local 71, Buffalo, NY). He later worked in the residential construction and home improvement industry. He was a gifted builder and craftsman and enjoyed helping many others with their varied home projects. Allen was a devoted follower of Christ and active in the church, participating in bible study, fellowship, and numerous mission and service activities over the years. He enjoyed fishing, golf, gardening, and playing cards with family and friends. He maintained a circle of devoted friends, who, along with his family, brought him much joy.
In addition to his wife, Allen is survived by his children, David Canfield (James), Patrick Canfield (Debra), Kenneth Canfield (Amy), Kim McWhirter (Richard), Bobbi Ann Mazurek (Edward), Rick Erb (Carol), Kurt Roof (Wendy), Kenneth Perry, Donna Pierce (Kenneth), and Jean Horne (David); 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Freitag; sister-in-law, Hellen Canfield; numerous nieces and nephews; former wife Barbara (Canfield) Marasi; caregiver and friend, Julie Smith; and special friends, Paul and Gail Ellis. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to April Stacey of Community Home Care & Hospice.
Allen was preceded into death by his second wife, Shirley (Roof) Canfield; his parents; brothers, Gordon Canfield, Clifford Canfield, and Carl Canfield; grandson, Brett Roof; sisters-in-law, Marie Canfield and Gloria Canfield; and brother-in-law, Richard Freitag.
A celebration of Allen’s life will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 1 PM at Grace Reformed Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:45 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Alamance Memorial Park.
