Leaving a legacy of great love and generosity, Alice Twist Fairchild died on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, having lived a full and exemplary life.
Alice was born in Buffalo, New York, where she developed an abiding faith and love for the church, and where she married the love of her life, Frank Louis Fairchild. After living briefly in Chicago and Los Angeles, she and Frank settled in High Point, North Carolina, where they raised four children. She was predeceased by her husband. She was predeceased also by her son Frank Louis Fairchild, Jr., her parents, Dr. Edward A. and Margaret Twist, and her sisters Jean Stephenson, Dorothy Kelly, and Mary Striegel. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Twist, and by her children: Thomas C. Fairchild and his wife Mary Ellen; Jane F. Henderson and her husband Jim; and Mary F. Aiken and her husband Brad. Grandchildren are Cleve Fairchild and his wife Astrid, Greg Aiken and his wife Sara, Maggie Aiken, Alice Henderson, and Emily Henderson.
Alice took enormous pleasure in entertaining family and friends, always finding ways to surprise and delight the people in her life. At times a little mischievous, she gave joy to everyone around her and added an artistic touch to everything she did. She liked nothing better than to play (actually, to win at!) bridge, scrabble, and cards.
The family express great appreciation for the loving care given Alice during her later years. Services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 11:00 am at the May-Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes, officiated by Rev. Briant Cullinane, OFM Conv. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, National Headquarters, 255 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
