Aleine Smith

Aleine Clayton Smith, 88 formerly of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury North Carolina. She was born August 10, 1929 to the late Herbert Victor and Ruth Brooks Clayton in Prospect Hill North Carolina and was the wife to the late Roy Smith.

Aleine attended Elon College before she served in the US Air Force. She worked for AT&T and retired from Lucent Technologies as purchasing manager. Aleine was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church as well as the Telephone Pioneers of America and numerous local bridge clubs. She was also a lifetime Carolina Tar Heel basketball fan.

Aleine is survived by her son John C. Smith and his wife Rebecca; granddaughter Janie Elizabeth Smith of San Francisco; sisters, Louise Clayton Allen, Martha Jean Wilson and husband Billy; brother, Michael Clayton and wife Patsy. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother Herbert Neal Clayton.

A funeral service will be held on 2:00 PM Friday, December 22, at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and visitation from 12:30 - 1:45 prior to the funeral. The internment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
