Albert Ward

Gibsonville, NC Albert Lloyd Ward, age 86, of E. Joyner Street in Gibsonville went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. He was a native of Caswell County and the husband of 68 years to Mary Elizabeth Simpson Ward who survives. Albert was employed for over 20 years with Overnite Trucking Company and he later retired from Sonoco Products. Albert continued to work in his retirement as a courier for Burlington Honda and Rapid Transit. He was a charter member of Piedmont Baptist Church where he served in the past as Sunday School Class President and trustee. He served with the US Army during WW II in the Pacific Theatre and was active in VFW Post 2972 in Gibsonville and was a former member of VFW Post 10607. Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters and son-in-laws, Barbara Ann Williams of Gibsonville, Patricia "Pat" Mae and Phillip Millikan of Elon, Kathy and Vic Andrews of Gibsonville; grandchildren and spouses, Wally Penny Williams, Rex Margie Williams, Michael Cathy Millikan, Stephen Millikan and Kenneth Shelby Andrews; 10 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; sister, Lena Terrell of Gibsonville; brother, Ed Lee Ward of Lee Heights, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Ida Mae Cox Ward; grandson, David Millikan; son-in-law, Wallace Williams, Sr. and a sister, Fannie Younger; brothers, Woodrow and Frank Ward. The family would like the VFW Post # 2972 and # 10607 members serve as honorary pallbearers for the funeral service. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mike Jones and Rev. Jim Racke and the burial will follow with Military Honors provided by the US Army at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
