Amelia Ray Cook, 4 months 23 days old, passed away peacefully in the arms of her mother and father at Duke University Hospital on Thursday, November 10, 2022. She was born on June 18, 2022 in Durham County to Jeremy Bryan Cook and Ashley Allred Cook.
Amelia Ray graced our lives in June and made it better than we could have ever imagined. She may have been tiny, but the love and light she brought to us was bigger than the whole sky. When Millie wasn’t dancing with Daddy, she loved being snuggled up tight to him. She loved when Mommy was there so they could play with toys and get caught up on all the people who asked about her, especially Mommy’s students.
She loved her Saturdays spent with Mimi and Papaw- no one did story time like Papaw. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom was her favorite! Millie was also so blessed to have an incredible second family in the Duke University Hospital NICU. She loved “spa day” with Nurse Susie, photography sessions with Nurse Crystal and Capturing Hope, Nurse Tena’s sweet, calming voice, and working on getting stronger with her PT Ruth and her OT Lara. While we will never understand why she had to fight these battles or why her time was cut so short on earth, we’re eternally grateful to have had her for the time we did. She touched so many lives in such a short amount of time.
For now, we have comfort in knowing she’s completely healed and being rocked in the arms of Jesus. Her courageous, feisty spirit will be carried in our hearts forever. We know in the days, weeks, months and years to come we will see Millie everywhere we go. When the sunlight hits your face just right, when the rainbow comes after a big storm, or when a butterfly lands by you, I hope you think of our Millie with us.
Survivors other than her parents Bryan and Ashley Cook include her maternal grandparents, Marty and Toni Allred; paternal grandparents, Dwight and Deborah Cook; maternal great grandparents, Raydean and Carol Kivett; uncles, Matthew Allred and Jamey Cook; a cousin, Dayton Cook; aunt, Courtney Cannon and husband Josh and their daughter, Dallas; great aunt and uncles, Deana and Wally Thomas and John Kivett. Amelia was preceded in death by her paternal great grandparents, Hubert and Odessa Barts, Bill and Louise Fuquay and maternal great grandparents, John “J.W.” and Dorothy Allred.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Alamance Memorial Park by Pastor Boyd Pickard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
