Melissa Dawn Smith

Melissa Dawn Smith, 28, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family after a strong fight battling leukemia for a year and a half.  She was born on February 9, 1991 in Alamance County to Dean Smith and Dawn Marin.

Melissa formerly worked at Blakley Hall and was a home healthcare associate with Right at Home.  She was a 2010 graduate from Eastern Guilford High School, avid softball player, a hard worker, very active in her children’s life and a member of Friedens Lutheran Church.

Melissa is survived by her children, Noah Smith, Mariah Smith and Eli Smith; father, Dean Smith; mother, Dawn Marin; sister, Kristy Smith; brother, Voight “Bubba” Smith; paternal grandmother, Betty Jo Smith; maternal grandmother, Gail Blake; niece, Marie Smith; nephews, Nate Smith and Sam Gonzalez; aunts and uncles, Gala and Daryl Hill, Carol and Brian Straughan, Roger Booth, Marty and Tracy Wright, Jim and Tracy Lewis, Gale and Joe Checchi, James and Gail Smith, Mark and Andrea Cash; the father of her children, David Smith and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Voight Smith; maternal grandparents, Paula Keys Justice, Rodney Justice and Robert Blake.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Friedens Lutheran Church by Rev. Bill Zima with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
