Mr. Marvin “Ray” McIntyre, age 85, of Graham, passed away on Sunday September 27, 2020 at Green Valley Medical Center after several months of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Carl Richard McIntyre and the late Ruth Blaylock McIntyre. He was married for over 64 years to Mrs. Patricia Kimbro McIntyre, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his military service he was employed with Webco Dyers and Western Electric before retiring after 22 years of service from the University of North Carolina as the Superintendent of Chilled Water Distribution. Ray was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Ruling Elder, Deacon, Treasurer, and the Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee for many years. He was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts, acting as assistant Scoutmaster and a Webelo leader. He was active in sports and enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and golf and he especially loved to travel. Ray was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and put his family above all except his Lord.
Mr. McIntyre is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Todd McIntyre and wife, Donna, of Goldston, NC and Kyle McIntyre and wife, Lorie, of Burlington; six grandchildren, Jessica (Peyton) Moody, Ashlyn McIntyre, Meagan (Wes) Little, Christian (Rachel) McIntyre, Cade McIntyre and Lucas McIntyre; two great grandchildren, Lincoln McIntyre and Carter Beth Little; a brother, Mark McIntyre of Burlington; two sisters, Nancy Trent of KY and Susan Baggett of AL; nineteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Hermansdorfer; two brothers, Carl McIntyre and Kenneth McIntyre.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Westminster Presbyterian Church by Rev. Powell Sykes. Mr. McIntyre will lie in state at the church from 12:30 – 1:45 prior to the service. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Cottage at Blakey Hall in Elon and also to the doctors and staff at Green Valley Medical Center in Greensboro.
