Mr. Herman J. “Jim” Goldstein, age 91, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Twin Lakes Orchard Facility in Burlington, NC after several months of failing health.
He was born on March 15, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY where his family dealt with issues related to the depression and World War II. When able, he joined the US Marine Corps and served until leaving to attend and graduate from University of North Carolina in 1952. He was also commissioned USAF through the Air Force Reserve Office Training Corps and served and retired from the USAF Reserves as a Major. He worked as an accountant for various companies in Chapel Hill and Burlington including Standard Hosiery, NC Memorial Hospital, Blue Cross Blue Shield and UNC. He enjoyed time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed square dancing and seminars from UNC Chapel Hill, especially on history and traveling abroad.
Jim is survived by wife of 70 years, Peggy Rimmer Goldstein; his daughter, Susan Goldstein Evans and husband, Jay, of Fairfax, VA; three grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
A service celebrating his life will be held at Twin Lakes May Foley Chapel at a later date and his cremains will be placed in the Memorial Garden at Sullivan Botanical Woods located at Twin Lakes in Burlington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be listed at a future date.
